‘Nit de l’Art in Palma’, the soul of Majorcan culture
The “Nit de l’Art“, the Night of Art, is one of the most famous, popular events organized in Majorca, although in an even more special way in Palma. It is celebrated on Saturday 22nd September, and promises to be one of the events of the year with a wide range of entertainment, shows and performances.
The Nit de l’Art in Palma has been organized for more than twenty years as a way of affirming Majorcan art and how important it is to value artist’s work and dedication. It is also a way to bring the culture and the artistic ideas of the moment to children and adults, sometimes by performing fun interactive shows between artists and the public. The whole city is full of shows, exhibitions, paintings, sculptures, photographs and every kind of artistic expression.
Some of the busiest places, located very close to our luxury hotel in Palma, are the Plaza Mayor, where you can find painters, sculptors and musical groups, El Borne, a place for theatrical performances, the Paseo de Majorca and Es Baluard, where you’ll see exhibitions of typical crafts, clothes, accessories and examples of dance, swing and concerts. The museums and Cultural houses are open throughout the event and offer all kinds of exhibitions with free entry. The areas of Escorxador, Plaza de Cort and Casco Antiguo de Palma are filled with street artists who recite poetry and participate in Slam contests, poetry recitals in which the public choose a winner.
From about 7pm, anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant walk through the city will find themselves immersed in a large exhibition of art, entertainment and performances. Visitors can also try avant-garde culinary ideas from the chefs throughout the city in the famous picturesque Foodtrucks, vans with integrated kitchens in which all kinds of dishes are made and from which craft beers from the island are also offered.
Undoubtedly, the Nit de l’Art is one of the most important events in Majorca and one of the most colourful at a visual level that you shouldn’t miss during your holiday, since you will have the chance to visit a city totally dressed in art and you can enjoy free admission to all the museums in Palma.
